Sony tablets S and P available for pre-order

Powerful New Sony Device On The Way?

There have been no announcements from Sony, but since freeing themselves of the shackles of Ericsson, the Japanese giant is looking to compete with Apple and Samsung in a big way. The latest addition to their Xperia line of smartphones, the Xperia S, has impressed across the board (ignoring the temporary problem of Android, which should get the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade soon) – and it looks like Sony are upping their game once more with a new device.

Going only by the model number V150, the new device has shown up on benchmarking site NenaMark (see below) and is certainly packing a punch – beating the notably powerful ASUS Transformer Prime in tests by nearly 20%. From the stats we can see that the device is running a quad-core nVidia Tegra 3 clocked at 1.4GHz with a 1280x752px display – but we don’t know whether it will be a smartphone or a tablet at this point. My money is on a tablet, as Sony’s current offerings, the S and P, may have interesting designs but their hardware is starting to look a little long in the tooth when compared to an iPad 3 or Transformer Prime – hopefully this will be Sony making their play.
