Much of the discussion about internet speeds in recent months has been about improvements such as fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) or even fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), where users can expect speeds of over 100Mbps. However, there are still some places in the UK where speeds have not yet reached 1Mbps.
Even as average speeds have crept up to 17.8Mbps, a recent survey by uSwitch found that nine streets in the country cannot get speeds of 1Mbps. Some of these places are very rural, where slow speeds may be expected, but Essex streets make up six of the 50 slowest streets in the UK.
The depressing truth is that 40% of Brits experience average speeds of below 5Mbps, with only 15% being offered superfast speeds of 30Mbps or above.
