GrandPad, the Orange County company that designs tablets for seniors, has added another innovative feature to their devices. GrandPad is pre-installing senior-friendly Uber apps on their tablet screens so users can easily hail rides when they need to get from Point A to Point B. This development is due to an effort by both companies to boost ease-of-mobility for senior citizens. The integration will be available in all 50 states within the first three months of 2016.

Affordable transportation

GrandPad saw the need to provide older adults with convenient, safe, and affordable transportation and took action by giving easy access to Uber. Being able to get around town as needed is a crucial factor in wellbeing. When individuals can’t get out because they are no longer driving, they can become isolated and miss opportunities to socialize with friends, make it to doctors’ appointments, and participate in community events.

Adapted application

In order to make using the Uber app especially seamless for seniors, grandPad created shortcuts and adaptations. For example, the font is larger and more easily read by elders, and locations can be pre-set so that pickups and drop-offs are a cinch. Companion apps can also be set up so that caregivers and family members can handle payments, manage rides, and keep an eye out for the riders, when necessary. Because of the comprehensiveness of the data packages, elders can connect with their drivers without using Internet connections.

Uber is user-friendly

GrandPad and Uber are companies that both have their customers’ wellbeing in mind, so their integration was seamless and efficient. Uber drivers show up upon request in a very short time. Drivers’ photos and names are displayed on riders’ tablet screens so they feel safe and know exactly who is picking them up and driving them to their destinations. Uber also has special vehicles that can transport individuals’ wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers.

Having an easy way to get around town does a lot for seniors’ self esteem, independence, and overall wellbeing. When people have the freedom to leave their houses and travel to where they need to go, it’s a win-win for all concerned. Thanks to grandPad and Uber for making this move.
