App of the Week: Google Maps

Google Maps For Android

Google Maps is pretty ubiquitous as far as map applications go – it is available from the web, and is the default mapping app for both iOS and Android. But it is the latest incarnation of the Android that makes it the App of the Week as it allows users to download maps for offline exploring.

Google Maps is a wonderful tool for finding your way around a new city or town, but up until now its use was reliant on an internet connection (either through a mobile network or Wi-Fi), but that limitation has disappeared for Android users. Now you can make use of the maps when there is no connection around, or even more useful – when you’re in a foreign country (when if you’re like me you are often lost) and you don’t want to pay exorbitant roaming charges. Google Maps for Android has finally completely replaced having to carry around a map, something I have been waiting for for a long time.

Whether this feature comes to iOS is for Google and Apple to negotiate, but for the time being those on Android should upgrade now.
