London Tube Directions Come To Google Maps

Google Maps Adds TfL Data For Public Transport

Google Maps now offers directions around London via the underground as well as by car and walking. In an announcement on the Google Blog, Google give some more information of the service and note that the options are also available in Google Maps for Android with the Transit Navigation (Beta) – already the leading mapping app in the smartphone sector. The app will even alert users when it is time to get off the bus or change service making London travel for those unfamiliar with the city so much easier.

Google also praise the London Datastore where TfL provides open access to its timetable information – making services like this possible. People want efficiency from public transport, and the more information available to innovators to combine various sources together in mash-ups the less time people will waste at bus stops and underground stations – all to the benefit of the wider economy.
