Samsung might be putting out some of the most highly specified and good looking smartphones and tablets at the moment, but they aren’t resting on their laurels in the processor and sensor departments either. Indeed, today the South Korean tech giant announced a new 1.5GHz Exynos CPU and a 16 megapixel image sensor.
The Exynos 4212 is a 1.5 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 application processor that is 30% more efficient and 25% faster than the current Exynos 4210. It will also feature an enhanced GPU which delivers 50% higher 3D graphical wonders.
The 16MP image sensor has catchy title of S5K2P1 and boasts 16 megapixel stills and 60 frames per second video at 8.3 megapixels. Samsung have also made clear it is designed for “high-performance, advanced smartphones” as well as digital cameras and camcorders.
Both the Exynos 4212 CPU and the S5K2P1 image sensor are heading to “selected customers” very shortly which should mean we see them in a few months in a batch of 2012 smartphones and tablets.
