Google Maps has become the defacto way that most people find their way around cities these days, with its integration into iPhones and Androids, and easy to use interface on the web. But, the technology giamt has just made travelling around London a little easier by adding live real-time updates from London Underground to the service.
Those planning a journey through Google Maps, or Google Transit on mobiles, around the British capital will now be presented with detailed information about the underground service they plan to use as well as any planned engineering works. yes this information has been available on the TfL website and some independent apps for a long time, but this integration of data from ITO World with Google Maps just makes things one step easier.
The update comes just a few months before the start of the London 2012 Olympics where the transport system is expected to come under a lot of strain from the millions of visitors. If people can use the system more efficiently, then the hope is that congestion might be a little bit reduced – although a number of Londoners are expecting the whole thing to grind to a halt – we’ll see.
