Basement office: what to consider?

Life is full of weird U-turns and it makes us use our ingenuity to the fullest if we want to succeed. If life has pushed you to create an office for yourself in the basement, there are a few things to consider.

1. Improve the connection

Make sure the connection in the future office is as good as it can be. Because if it’s not, the frustration and anger will come out of every pour, which is not good for work, or for fun. Even if you get 3-4 bars, it might not be enough for quality video calls. So get a 4G LTE signal booster. It will make sure your connection is fail-proof and allow you to focus on work and productivity.

2. Take care of the air conditioning

Fresh air and basements don’t go hand in hand. That’s why it’s a primary task to make sure the air conditioning is on point and the humidity in the basement is under control. Otherwise, you are risking your health, which is far from the best decision. There are special devices to make sure the humidity levels are optimal, like humidifiers and dehumidifiers (depending on your preferences).

3. Lighting is key

Natural lighting is not just a luxury, it’s a necessity to our eyes and brain. Sunlight is important for our nervous system to function properly. There are ways to create pseudo-natural lighting in the basement, ranging from lightbulbs with a special color effect, to creating windows, surrounded by special materials, to reflect the sunlight. In any case, don’t try to cut corners when it comes to light, as it’s crucial to your well-being and productive work.

4. Eliminate distractions

Distractions are the enemy when it comes to productive work. Don’t bother with putting a pool table down in the basement, or a foosball. It will only distract you from work and disturb the thought process. Plus, it’s a good idea to block all the social media temporarily, then work in bursts and reward yourself with some time off.

5. Decorate

Working from home is tough enough. Having to work from the basement is even tougher. But if you don’t ignore the decorating side of things, it’s going to be easier to create an atmosphere relaxing enough not to tense you up and serious enough to get into working mode. In any case, decorate with the things you love and surround yourself with items that look and smell pleasantly. That small step will bring you much closer to an effective working environment.

Having a basement office is fun, if you can create the conditions necessary for productive work. There are several important factors to consider, but once you do, you’ll enjoy your office even more and be able to raise your productivity.
