Are you struggling to keep up with your workload amidst interruptions and distractions at home? Do you find yourself balancing a laptop on your knees more often than not? If your temporary home office isn’t working for you, it may be time to set up a more permanent solution.
Doing the job properly is a tricky task, so here’s a few things you might want to consider.
Take over the spare room
Many people have a spare room that is used for storing junk in and nothing more. The same can be said for many garages and lofts. If you’re going to make your home-working permanent, then you are going to have to look at converting an unused space into your own office.
This is not an inexpensive job to do, with the cost of carpet fitting, decorating, and buying suitable furniture. Not to mention possible insulation and plastering costs if you’re converting a garage or loft. But how long can you cope without doing it?
Getting the set-up right
Buying the right furniture for your home office is important for your physical health and your sanity. You want to get away from cramped home working, so make sure you have ample desk space and an adjustable office chair. This is your ideal opportunity to have multiple computer screens set up for easier working. And why not look at installing network cables rather than relying on your wi-fi connection?
Just as important as getting the right furniture and technology, is putting them in the right location. If you’re wedged up against the wall with the daylight reflecting onto your screens, it’s going to drive you mad.
Add some office perks
There has to be more perks to working from home than wearing your pyjamas. Why not install a coffee station, along with snacks to keep you fuelled? Like working with music playing in the background? Get yourself a quality sound system sorted.
And if you like to take regular breaks, why not create your own chill-out corner? Think about comfy beanbag chairs and a funky floor lamp. If you’ve converted a larger space, how about a small pool table or games table for those times when you do want a distraction?
Hopefully, these tips will help you work out what you need to consider when setting up your home office.
