This year has been an interesting one for gadgets, and there’s been some true must-haves emerging from the competition. As expected, 2014 has seen the boundary pushed further back and “cutting-edge” redefined. As more of daily life moves to the realm of digital, new developments in mobile technology has been key to the success of new gadgets. Work and play now lies literally at the touch of a fingertip, and today’s best gizmos have to let users connect to the latest mobile apps, news, weather, shopping, games and more. In 2014, mobile device users rely on an internet connection more than ever, opening up new options for following all the latest trends, news, and even sports and betting have completely embraced the online option. Those companies that have have really incorporated it all for every user on the go, will have what it takes to set them apart from its competitors.
Laptops vs. mobile devices
For starters, 2014 has seen the rise of ultrabooks. Cornering the market, ultrabooks offer high performance with fancy design, appealing to laptop users who need the perfect match of power and portability. They’re made with design in mind, and so the top choices like Acer’s Aspire range or Dell’s XPS 13 are a little pricier than other laptop options. That said, the top end ultrabooks all have exceptional processing power, high quality 1080p touchscreens, at least 8gb RAM, and decent battery life. The year’s also seen a wealth of options for hybrid two-in-one laptops particularly from Lenovo and Dell, with flip out screens, full HD touchscreens – true hybrids with the response time to rival any mobile device.
Chromebooks have been another massive development on the gadget market, and at a fraction of the price of other laptops they represent a fantastic option for those computer users looking for a strong functional performer that’ll run for hours fully charged. Google have stepped up the game with their Chromebook, and coming up with a minimalist approach to the laptop, they’ve come up with a viable contender to challenge the rise of the ever-larger range mobile phone and tablets.
Mobile devices have kept up with the competition and continued to better themselves, and 2014 has seen new standards set in premium phones and tablets. For phones, screen sizes have hit the five inch mark and resolution specs continue to progress. Both Android and iOS users have a magnificent range of top choices on offer. Samsung have gone from strength to strength, and have in the new Galaxy Alpha a true equal to the hotly awaited new iPhone model, due to come out later in the year.
