Twitter Acquires Social Analytics Firm BackType

BackTweetsTwitter has acquired the social analytics firms BackType for an undisclosed sum, with the BackType team and intellectual property moving to the Twitter platform.

BackType provides an analytics dashboard to help brands and advertising agencies better grasp their impact on Twitter and other social media platforms. They also provide a service called Backtweets to “help publishers understand the reach of their tweets and content, who they are reaching, and how Tweets covert to web traffic, sales and other KPIs.” It is BackTweets, obviously, that Twitter was most interested, as well as Storm, which they describe as “the Hadoop of realtime processing”. The WordPress plugin that integrates social media reactions into WordPress comments may also be an interesting tool for Twitter who have worked with WordPress in mind before on Blackbird Pie.

For the time being BackType will offer its BackTweets service to current users for free, but will not be accepting any new registrations and will discontinue the BackType product and API services.
