BBC.com Turning A Profit

BBCBBC.com the international site of the British Broadcasting Corporation has announced that it has reached profitability two years ahead of schedule. That is great news for BBC Worldwide which has been conscientious of getting the right balance of UK and world news with the corporation maintaining its image of authority and fairness in news reporting across the globe.

Luke Bradley-Jones, the Managing Director of BBC.com and Global iPlayer provides some stats on this achievement in a blog post noting that:

  • Global ad sales have increased 83% in the last year with the BBC working with over 500 advertisers.
    BBC.com now has 50 million users outside the UK
  • The BBC News website is the most popular news website in mainland Europe among “affluent households”.
  • Overall digital sales we up 31.5% this year to £81.9 million, according to the BBC’s Annual Report.

The world is still waiting for the BBC to release its popular iPlayer service outside of the UK, but other apps from the BBC such as the Global News App have been very popular with millions of downloads on iOS and Android.
