Nokia To Undercut Android Phones To Gain Market Share

Nokia Microsoft Windows Phone 7

Nokia’s market share and shre price has been tumbling over recent months as the Finnish phone manufacturer has struggled with its direction since the emergence of smartphones like the iPhone and various Android models. Nokia has bet the company on Windows Phone 7 Mango, and the world will see the fruits of their combined labour later this year – but currently both are languishing at the low end of smartphone sales numbers.

Now in an interview with Business Insider, Nokia’s head of North American sales Chris Weber has described the company’s plans to wrestle market share from the dominant players – namely iPhones and Android phones from the likes of HTC and Samsung. He explained that Nokia was planning on undercutting the cheapest Android phones on price to get their smartphones into the hands of everyday consumers that are now turning to smartphones in droves, all whilst also producing high-end phones to compete with the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy SII. It sounds like Nokia will be relaunching with a whole suite of phones over the coming months, with competitors for every price and feature available – and if they do it right there will suddenly be three platforms vying for smartphone ecosystem supremacy iOS/iPhone, Android/various, Microsoft/Nokia.

The first Microsoft/Nokia device that is likely to come to market is the Sea Ray device first “leaked” in that Nokia meeting/marketing exercise a couple of months ago, but we’ve got a better video showing off the device now below.
