Lenovo Announces IdeaPad A1 7″ Android Tablet For $199

Lenovo IdeaPad A1 7" TabletThe trend for 7″ tablets is continuing apace with Amazon, Samsung, and now Lenovo getting in on the market that sits somewhere between a smartphone, and e-reader, and an iPad. But Lenovo appears to have pricing on its side with its tablet, the IdeaPad A1 – as it is priced at just $199 – that’s just £125 if the pricing gets an roughly accurate UK conversion.

It may not have the power or gloss of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, as it is only running Android Gingerbread (2.3.5) on a single-core Cortex A8 CPU beneath its 1024×600 7″ display, but it still punches way above its $199 pricetag – which incidentally is $50 less that Amazon plans to sell its Kindle tablet which is far more cut down for the price. Indeed, the IdeaPad A1 will come in 8GB ($199), 16GB ($249), and 32GB ($299) flavours but come with MicroSD and SD expansion slots – so adding more will be no trouble, and it comes with both WiFi and GPS built in, along with front and rear cameras. Access to the Android Marketplace will also mean user will be able to get their hands on all those great Android goodies as well from GMail to Maps.
