Find My iPhone Used To Locate Chilean Plane Crash

Find My iPhone Chilean Air Crash

A Chilean Air Force plane crashed on Sept. 2nd near the Juan Fernandez islands, sadly killing all 21 on board. Search and rescue teams were unable to locate the plane’s wreckage until a family member of one of the victims used Apple’s Find My iPhone app and shared the information provided with officials.

Remains from the CASA 212 plane were found floating in the sea near Tierra Banca and Playa Larga, in a zone between the islands of Robinson Crusoe and Santa Clara, and Juan Fernández airport. It is amazing that the iPhone survived the impact as few pieces of the wreckage have been found over 50cm in size, with only four bodies so far being recovered – but the search continues.
