Microsoft Releases Windows Phone 7.5 Mango

Windows Phone 7 Mango

Microsoft has begun rolling out the latest incarnation of its Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system known as WP7.5 or Mango and with it a slew of more than 500 useful upgrades and additions in total with Windows Phone users receiving the upgrade OTA (over the air).

One of the major upgrades us to the communication hub, with Mango adding Twitter and LinkedIn support on top of the previous Facebook and Windows Live integration. This means you can see your friends’ updates as you browse through them in your contacts with the matching of the social media accounts to your phone contacts done by a specially designed algorithm from Microsoft. On top of that Microsoft is upgrading the groups features including threaded conversations for Facebook and Windows Live Messaging as well as SMS.

Apps are also getting an overhaul with Mango making it easier for users to discover some of the 30,000-odd now available on the platform with the addition of a web interface so users can browse apps from the desktop. The Live Tiles that are WP7’s standout feature will now deliver richer information from apps and there is the possibility for multiple tiles from the same app.

Multi-tasking is also being added to the smartphone OS with it easier to switch between them, and visual voicemail and tethering are added as options as well.

This is a big update for free.
