Kindle Fire Competitor ViewSonic Viewpad 10e Is Just £199

ViewSonic Viewpad 10e

As Amazon’s Kindle Fire is US-only for the time being, UK users are looking elsewhere for their budget tablet fix – and it appears that ViewSonic may have just the device in the 9.7″ Viewpad 10e.

ViwSonic are better known for their monitors, and the Viewpad 10e comes packing an impressive 9.7″ IPS (in-plane switching) display – offering the same aspect, resolution, and pixel density as the iPad 2. It has a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor running the show on Android Honeycomb, with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage (upgradeable by a MicroSD slot), along with WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Micro-USB connector for charging, and a mini HDMI to connect it up to a TV.

The only downside is that it is not the slimmest or lightest tablet around – although at 9.1mm thick (241.6 x 188.6 x9.1mm) and weighing in at 620g – it is no fatty either. It is also not a Google certified device, so there’s no Android Marketplace on here, and no Google apps like GMail – but it comes with a Kindle app preinstalled, and the Marketplace is not the only place to get apps.

All this for just £199 is pretty impressive – so if you’re in the market for a tablet, but don’t fancy shelling out the big bucks for an Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab – then this may be a perfect fit.
