ViwSonic are better known for their monitors, and the Viewpad 10e comes packing an impressive 9.7″ IPS (in-plane switching) display – offering the same aspect, resolution, and pixel density as the iPad 2. It has a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor running the show on Android Honeycomb, with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage (upgradeable by a MicroSD slot), along with WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Micro-USB connector for charging, and a mini HDMI to connect it up to a TV.
The only downside is that it is not the slimmest or lightest tablet around – although at 9.1mm thick (241.6 x 188.6 x9.1mm) and weighing in at 620g – it is no fatty either. It is also not a Google certified device, so there’s no Android Marketplace on here, and no Google apps like GMail – but it comes with a Kindle app preinstalled, and the Marketplace is not the only place to get apps.
All this for just £199 is pretty impressive – so if you’re in the market for a tablet, but don’t fancy shelling out the big bucks for an Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab – then this may be a perfect fit.
