Baidu Reveals Cloud Smartphone

Baidu Cloud Smartphone

We’ve all seen many of our most used services and systems moved to the cloud from our music collection with Spotify or gaming with OnLive or our anti-virus with Panda or file sharing and backup with DropBox – but Chinese search giant Baidu is taking that one-step further with its cloud smartphone.

The devices will be available for under 1000 RMB (under £100) and manufactured by Foxconn but making use of many cloud technologies rather than incorporating such expensive components into the phone itself. These smartphones will be more integrated with the cloud than ever before, with each phone coming with 100GB of cloud storage from Baidu and various personalised cloud services running on the latest Baidu Cloud OS. The device will be able to run Android apps, but the real change here is the ability for app makers to create cloud apps that don;t rely on the sec of the smartphone to run as the heavy lifting is done by an army of servers in the sky.
