Android Jelly Bean Vs. iOS 6: The Latest War

iOS vs AndroidHaving taken the tech world by storm, iOS and Android indulge in a never-ending battle to outdo each other every passing minute. While both platforms have been criticized for security issues with iPhone and Android spyware taking their toll, they still remain the most hailed nonetheless. While iOS 6 is the new creation of once regarded innovation leader Apple, Android has been a clever adversary that was quite quick to catch up and has recently launched its latest brainchild – the powerful Jelly Bean. Let’s take a look at what each of iOS 6 and Android Jelly Bean have to offer that the other one doesn’t.

Writing Made Easy

Android Jelly Bean is a blessing for people who are fond of texting as well as those who dread using a touch sensitive keyboard due to its capability of increasing typing errors by, well, quite a large number. The Android’s swipe feature allows users to type merely by sliding their finger across from one key to the other instead of tapping each key individually. Not only is it more convenient and easier to use, it is also extremely quick and largely reduces any chances of errors.

You Call That a Map?

Seriously, iOS 6? Regardless of the initial excitement that the iOS 6’s very own Maps app had caused upon being announced, the app itself turned out to be, well, plain disappointing. The iOS app in no way matches what Android Jelly Bean’s Google Maps have to offer, ranging from walking or transit directions to the offline maps that can be retrieved even with no service.

I Need More Space!

Android’s micro-SD storage slot in most phones makes data transfer from other devices which support micro-SD storage cards fairly convenient. Not only does this provide users with extra storage, the cost associated with it is minimized to the cost of the storage card alone whereas increased storage with iOS means purchasing a more expensive new device altogether.

The Wait

Want to add ONE file to your iPhone’s media library? Please sync with iTunes which, of course, will take forever. However, Android allows you to drag and drop whatever file you want onto your phone by simply connecting it to your computer system via USB.

Begging for Updates

While the iOS blesses users of devices as old as the iPhone 4 with free automatic OS updates on the very day it is updated, Android’s OS updates take months to reach its users, that too at the mercy of phone carriers. However, Android cannot really be blamed for the lag since it caters to a variety of cell phone manufacturers, who may not be willing to change their device’s specifications to suit the OS update, whereas iOS updates only have to be sent to iPhones alone.

How Safe Is Your Phone?

iOS offers a Geolocation feature that allows users to track down their phones upon getting lots. Also, iOS’s Auto erase feature, when activated, wipes any sensitive data present on the device in case of ten wrong password attempts. In case of device’s recovery, the data can be restored from your desktop backup. While Android’s operating system offers no such feature, many apps are available to boost your phone’s security and perform the same operations as offered by iOS.

The Meltdown

With its easy-to-use keyboard, better maps, generous storage capabilities and much more, it is a safe bet to say that an Android would be a better choice over iOS any day. Even the lack of security in Android compared to iOS can be resolved with the help of available applications. However, since both platforms have their own fan following, the ultimate decision as to which one to go for largely depends on what lineage the user craves.
