We’ve covered a number of options for small businesses and boutiques to start taking card payments here before, but with PayPal now joining the market with PayPal Here the mobile payments space has never been more competitive, and innovations are coming thick and fast.
Just like iZettle and Payleven, PayPal Here lets people take VISA and Mastercard card payments with the use of a little £99 chip-and-PIN card reader which syncs via Bluetooth with Android and iOS devices. PayPal then takes a 2.75% flat fee of each transaction (a little more for swipe or phone transactions) and that’s it – all very similar to its competitors.
Where PayPal has an edge, however, is that people can also pay via “PayPal check in”, so people can find your business through the PayPal app on their phones, and then pay you without even needing to get their card out at all.
The app will also help small businesses keep up with their accounting by letting them log cash and cheques and issue invoices and instant receipts – all helping with keeping running a business as paper-free as possible.
