The PlayStation 4 launches in the UK today, and to mark the occasion, Sony has made a first in convincing British tabloid The Sun to swap out its normal photo of a topless twenty-something girl, and replace Page 3 (and page 2) with a double-spread advert for the gaming system, which says:
Apologies to Rosie, 22, from Middlesex.
Today’s Page 3 is for the players.
Complaints about the sexism of having softcore nude images in a daily newspaper have been mounting recently, but if this ad is anything to go by, The Sun are simply keeping the “institution” of Page 3 for sales figures, and certainly no ideas of tradition.
