Computer breakdown – be prepared

There – just about to put the finishing touches to the important business presentation for work tomorrow… no! The PC has frozen, is non-responsive and needs urgent repairs. And those repairs won’t pay for themselves. You’ve just landed an unexpected, and very much unwanted, bill that you hadn’t banked on.

Research by Money Advice Service has revealed that the average tech breakdown costs £294. It might not be a laptop or PC you use for work that is affected – it could be the tablet your children received as a present. Even worse, that same research shows 71% of people experience unexpected bills at some point – for car or washing machine repairs, vets costs and so on.

Money like this is hard to find at the drop of a hat, but by saving £3 a day – or as much as you can afford – it can be achieved, and almost without noticing. Just skip some of the little items you buy, almost without thinking. Do you need that magazine? Can you do without a couple of snacks? Is a scratch card really necessary?

Save a little every day and, if you’re unlucky enough to be hit with an emergency bill, you’ll be in a better position to handle it.
