Evolution of printing: top 5 things that you need to know

There’s no running away from the fact that printing has been a strong part of the human cycle as long as we can trace it back. Nowadays, the era of technology has evolved so much that even printing has changed to a great extent. The evolution of printing will start from woodcut printing and can be pushed towards digital printing.

If you look at the history of printing, you will be astonished to see how it has evolved over the years. As of now, printing technology has curtailed the hustle of printing with technological innovations. Below, we have highlighted the most prominent printing technologies that exist:

Offset printing

This can be traced back 150 years. But it is very much in use till today. The process involves transferring the image from a plate to a rubber blanket. It is finally placed on the printing surface later. This printing technique has been around for quite some time and is a concrete part of the printing world in third-world countries. Herein a flat image, known as a planographic, uses the ink roller to transfer the image amongst the carrier.

Inkjet printing

This is one of the most advanced forms of printing, and herein, the computer recreates the images into digital ones with ink droplets. It is one of the most common printing forms, ranging from expensive machines to inexpensive options. The origin of the inkjet dates back to the 20th century.

This was when the technology was first created and recreated what the computer images used to hold.  If you wish to buy a printer and its cartridge, ensure they are both of the same brands. For example, if you buy HP ink cartridges, the printer has to be of the same company.

Screen printing

This technique was earlier called silkscreen printing because of the quantity of silk involved in the process. It is also acknowledged as serigraph printing, which is currently the synthetic thread. Simply put, the mesh is prepared from polyester but is not limited to it.

On the other hand, stainless steel and nylon are popular options for screen printing too. While screen printing has become a thing of the past, it has been in operation for quite some time.

Digital printing

It is known as the most advanced and latest form of printing in the world. It will directly print the digital version of the picture on various media devices. Luckily, the modification of the moveable images and the conventional images can easily be developed.

And it can later be spread across other platforms. Digital printing has changed the dynamics of the printing industry. Simply put, it is digital printing that helps businesses save a lot of time and money.

Laser printing

Electrostatic digital printing is acknowledged as laser printing. This form of printing will produce high-quality graphics and even text through a laser beam. This will bounce back and forth through a charged cylindrical drum. Later, the images are formed by a light on paper, which creates a pictorial form of the image through lasers.
