How psychometric tests can help you find the best candidate for the role

A psychometric test is useful in the evaluation of a candidate’s performance. It is basically an activity or assessment. This test includes knowledge, skills, abilities, personal traits, attitudes, and academic potential. Besides these, it also includes many more things. There are many test styles of this test are available. But there are three main areas. These are behavioral tests, aptitude tests, and assessment centers.

What are the main psychometric testing areas?

In the test, you need to understand the questions correctly and then answering them. Besides this one more challenge is time. You need to overcome the time constraints. The time factor is there for both aptitude tests and for assessment exercises. These tests are time-framed and therefore they tell us how much good you are in coping with the time pressure. So what you need to do? You need to do the practice beforehand. So that you can easily get success in the tests. This is really very crucial.

BEHAVIORAL TEST- These tests are framed to find out the particular or specific personality characters, which are required or which helps to tell the suitability of the candidate for the specific roles. This test includes leadership tests, personality questionnaires, situational judgment tests, and motivational tests.

APTITUDE TESTS-These tests help in testing the various cognitive abilities. They help in finding out many skills like your literacy skill, your numeracy skill, your spatial awareness and besides these many more other skills.

ASSESSMENT CENTRES- These are totally oriented on human interaction assessments. Here in this test, the assessors through different exercises conduct the test. These exercises include those specific skills and simulation which are required for the job.

What are the different types of tests?

These tests include those skills which are required to complete the duties of the job. These are verbal tests, numerical tests, logical tests, technical tests, spatial reasoning tests mechanical tests and electrical tests, concentration tests, error- checking tests.

Verbal assessment

Verbal tests are utilized to find out the candidate’s ability to know and understand the information which is there in the written form. The very common format of this type of assessment is the selection of ‘true’, ‘false’. Or it may be like ‘cannot say’ for each statement. It is in the form of text analysis.  It is based on the understanding of the language.

Numerical assessment

In the numerical assessment, questions are based on graphs, number sequences, word problems, and tables. There are two particular levels of this test. One is numeracy tests. Another is numerical reasoning tests.

Logical assessment

In the logical assessment, everything is non-verbal. This test may include inductive reasoning, abstract reasoning, deductive reasoning, diagrammatic reasoning, or abstract reasoning. In the abstract reasoning test, you will be provided with information which is based on different shapes, words, and pattern. Then you need to draw a conclusion and that should be logical. In inductive reasoning, you will be provided with a series of shapes or matrics. In this test, you need to tell which image or picture will come next. Or it might happen that you need to tell the images which are missing in the series. So that the entire series will be completed. In the case of deductive learning, you need to use a group of rules over a particular example. In this test, they will observe whether you are able to apply or not. In diagrammatic reasoning, you have to come to some logical conclusion. And this will be based on the visual representations. This is nearly the same as other tests.

Technical assessment

This assessment is required for a job that is technically oriented. In a job where skilled and non-skilled technicians, mechanics, machine operators are required, there this type of test is taken. Through this test numerical skills, mechanic skills, visual skills are evaluated. This does not require prior knowledge of technical. But through this test, your aptitude can be measured.

Spatial reasoning assessment

Here in this test your will be judged on the ability of your navigation of 2D and 3D images. Your ability of spatial visualization, mental rotation, and mental folding abilities will be evaluated. Besides these, your visuospatial function and spatial functions are also judged.

Mechanical and electrical reasoning assessment

In this aptitude test, your understanding of electrical and mechanical concepts and terms is evaluated. This test needs a higher level of analysis. Even a little bit of numerical calculations are also there.

Concentration assessment

This test needs to be completed quickly and correctly. This test is required in many administrative roles in jobs. It may be pilots, clerical, railway workers, train drivers, etc.

Error-checking assessment

Your attentiveness to minute detail and your capability to find errors are evaluated through this test. This assessment is required in many industries. In marketing, hospitality, engineering, and education this is needed.

What qualities are employers looking for?

Psychometric test provide us many psychological tools. These are used by employers. They use it to know your ability for a role. Through these tools, you can evaluate different skills. Some of the popular tests are numerical, logical reasoning, and verbal. There are few reasons that the companies are using these tools. The most important reason is for improving and reducing HR and the cost which is required in the recruitment process. The other reason is to get good and quality candidates. By this, they can avoid employee turnover. They want such type of employee who has a good amount of cognitive ability and other skills. And all these things are required for performing duties of a job. These skills are assessed by this test. If you want to be a face in the crowd then you need to practice these tests. This practice part is very important.

These tests are often shorts. It takes between 5 to 20 minutes. But there are some tests which required more time to finish. The total duration of the assessment is dependent on the kind of test you will be taking, the role function you have applied for. It also depends on the level of the job.
