The time is nigh; E3 2015 is very nearly here, and the excitement levels are ramping up precipitously! Set to take place between the 16th and 18th of June at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, all of the most luminous figures in the video game entertainment industry will soon be descending on the expo, and all manner of ground-shaking announcements and releases will be cascading out of the keynotes and testing booths that E3 is so deftly known for. So, what can we expect from the biggest event in gaming?
The vast majority of the most intriguing announcements to be made this year will likely be from the Sony camp, the next generation console having zipped forward in front of Microsoft’s XBox One to take a near-insurmountable lead. All eyes will be on the Japanese gaming giant given the very high likelihood that the company’s virtual reality system, Morpheus, will be showcased, however it will be interesting to see which games, and indeed which peripherals, Sony will be using to show off their new fangled device. Game releases such as No Man’s Sky, Until Dawn, Hellblade and Ratchet & Clank will also likely be shown, providing all manner of fan-boy gushing opportunities for PS4 enthusiasts!
Mobile gaming has become a massive force of late, with hundreds of millions of players tapping and swiping furiously every single day. Nintendo’s new mobile gaming service is, according to the company, definitely not going to be showcased, so that leaves the mobile space open to indie developers and perhaps those from the online casino gaming industry. The latter has been experiencing explosive growth of late, yet has hardly been represented at E3s of the past; perhaps we’ll see stalls from providers such as Lady Lucks? Only time will tell if this fledgling industry chooses to take part in the Electronic Arts Expo big leagues!
From the Microsoft end of the expo, we’ll be seeing Halo 5 and a number of first party titles that have yet to be announced, hopefully signalling a weaning of Microsoft off of the lucrative, but now rather over-done, franchises it has relied upon over the past few years. Thanks to a leak by Amazon US, we also known that Microsoft is going to be announcing a new XBox One console model featuring updated specs – a 1TB hard drive, among other things – and a completely new controller. Microsoft is obviously feeling the heat of the ongoing console war, it seems!
