Hidden within the complaint against Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the EU, was a mention of two other lawsuits Apple was filing at the same time in the same court: a complaint against Motorola’s Xoom tablet; and another against a JAY-tech tablet.
The brief mention of these complaints did not contain any note about an application for an EU-wide preliminary injunction against Motorola or JAY-tech, but such a request would be likely looking at the Samsung case and Apple’s rather liberal use of court systems recently. Apple appears to believe that they own the rights to any glass fronted rectangle-ish design, or at least that is what they are claiming in the courts. Apple may not make the capacitive screens used in its phones and tablets, but as soon as another manufacturer adds a couple of buttons and a back-cover, Apple argues it infringes their rights in design.
What was that saying about innovators creating technology whilst the fat and lazy used the courts…?
