Samsung Won’t Be Buying WebOS

Samsung Says No To WebOSContrary to the various rumours (including ours) that WebOS may be a good fit for Samsung, the South Korean tech powerhouse has come out and denied the possibility in no uncertain terms.

At the IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin, Samsung CEO Choi Gee Sung said that they would “never” pursue the acquisition of WebOS from HP, and in general noted that “it’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion” – especially when Samsung has its own in-house OS in Bada. He didn’t rule out the possibility of licensing it, but as HP didn’t manage to gain sufficient traction with the OS with its own hardware, I doubt any other manufacturer will put in the effort required to create phones for the limping OS – with HTC the only other likely suitor to keep it from the deadpool.
