Android For HP TouchPad Gets First Alpha Release

HP TouchPad Android

The CyanogenMod team have been working round the clock to get Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), aka CyanogenMod 7.1.0, working on the orphaned HP TouchPad devices – and they have come a long way with today’s release of an alpha-version.

By definition alpha releases are more for those experienced with debugging and testing software, with the CyanogenMod team refering to this as the Lower Your Expectations Edition – although it looks surprisingly stable and functional from the video (see below). This release isn’t really for the general public, but it does show how far the team have come in a short month or so.

If you fancy getting down and dirty though, you’ll find multiboot support, ten-point multi-touch, WiFi, camera support, and video chat. The biggest bugbears at the moment seem to be with the gyroscope, sleep mode, and the battery draining too quickly.
