LG has introduced a new LCD smartphone LCD display which offers full 1080P HD and is just 2.2mm thick – making it the world’s thinnest screen.
The panel is 5.2 inches diagnally and has a 2.3mm bezel, meaning that mobile devices can have bigger screemns but keeping the same or even reducing their dimensions.
LG has done this by pioneering new technologies such as what it calls an “Advanced One-Glass Solution” which puts dual flexible circuits between the touch film and the panel resulting in 30% fewer lines on the panel. Clever.
LG is not the only display panel manufacturer working towards becoming thinner with ever smaller bezels, with companies from Sony to Apple announcing devices that are lighter with more screen and less surrounding materials. There are rumours that Appl’s upcoming iPad 5 may not have any bezel at all, possibly with a new Samsung panel.
LG are due to announce a new flagship smartphone in the Nexus 5 on August 7th, with this new screen likely to make its debut in that device. Watch this space.
