Nokia Lumia 1020 Smartphone with 41MP Camera Coming to O2 and Three

After leaks springing from all corners for the last few days, Nokia has finally announced their latest flagship smartphone with the Lumia 1020, which comes with that huge 41 megapixel camera.

We have long talked of the death of the megapixel as a way to compare cameras, because lenses, sensors, and software make more of a difference to a picture than a couple of megapixels here and there once you get into the 8+ range. This Nokia camera, however, takes a different approach to most pocket-sized cameras in getting such a huge number of megapixels to work along with image stabilisation tools and some clever software to make an image which puts the other cameras on smartphones to shame. It has little to do with the numbers, and all to do with how they have worked that into their camera.

Nokia invented this technology and released it originally in their promising 808 Pureview phone last year, but that was running Symbian so had a limited appeal. The Lumia 1020 is running Windows Phone 8, so now we have a competitor.

Alongside the camera, the Lumia 1020 also comes packing a 4.5″ AMOLED display with 1280 x 768px resolution (so still no 1080P), a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor, with 2Gb of RAM and 32GB storage. It supports 4G, so you sending those high quality pictures to someone will be faster than ever, and the 2000 mAh should keep it running for a fair while.

The Lumia 1020 will be coming to O2, Three, and Phones4U sometime in Q3 this year.
