Who Are the Target Consumers for the Brightly Coloured iPhone 5C?

Since Steve Job brought the magic back to Apple, where the company really excelled was in making devices that everyone wanted but were just a little bit too expensive. This “Apple-gap”, between what people wanted to pay, and where Apple priced their products is what kept Apple products as the devices to have, and that feeling of being in an exclusive club even though most your friends also had the same device.

With the iPhone 5C, Apple has made a device that is not for everyone. With the brightly coloured “unapologetically plastic” covers it seems to being aimed at a younger market, which is the demographic Apple needs to target to get people locked into their walled garden ecosystem, but in targeting a specific group, they are excluding others.

Is this Apple looking to copy its Android competitors and offer a different phone for every type of person? Or is this just a single foray into colours to capture a younger market?
