Back To The Future inspired self-tying laces coming to Nike shoes from 2015

Nike Back To The Future self-tying laces

Fashion isn’t really something we cover too often here on TechFruit, but when a Nike designer says that Marty McFly-styled self-tying laces with be coming in 2015, that is definitely something for a tech blog.

Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, the man behind Nike’s Back to the Future Part II shoes, was speaking to a crowd at New Orleans’ Jordan Brand’s Flight Lab space, when he said:

“Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say yes!”

Nike launched the Hyperdunk McFly shoes in 2008, very much inspired by Back To The Future, and then in 2011 they created 1500 screen-accurate Nike MAG replicas of Marty McFly’s shows in the film, only without the self-tying laces, to raise money for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research. Now it seems like Nike have cleared that last hurdle and future footwear is about to become a reality.

Now where is that hoverboard?
