Microsoft Windows 10

Why Windows 10 is set to quickly outpace than Windows 8

Microsoft Windows 10

You would need to have been living on another planet to not know about the problems that existed with Windows 8. Microsoft took acceptance from users for granted, following the success of Windows 7. It produced an entirely new interface that caused significant problems in usage.

The good news is that Windows 10 is taking users away from all the problems, and seems set to be the best version yet. So what can you expect from Windows 10; let’s take a look.

The great news for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users is that Windows 10 is available as a free upgrade & offers consistent experience across all devices. This means you can spend more of your hard earned cash on that piece of software/laptop you have had your eye on.

The return of the start menu

We can almost hear the cheering at the news that the start menu returns with Windows 10; in a new and improved format. You get a list of your most frequently used apps, and a list of All Apps shortcuts, including stand-by and shut down. The menu is combined with the Windows 8 start screen, with the tiles still displayed on the right hand side of the screen. You can customize the tiles, and if you prefer you can still opt to have the Windows 8 start screen.

Search and its link with Cortana

With Windows 10 the search facility is front and centre on the taskbar, making it far easier to locate than it was with Windows 8. It also links directly with Cortana. You still have the same ability to communicate with Cortana by typing or talking. In fact all the features of Windows Phone are now present in Windows 10.

The Edge Browser

With Windows 10 comes a brand new browser, Edge. Testing has suggested that the browser performs well, and not only allows you to concentrate on the content of a page, by removing any superfluous furniture, but also gives you the ability to highlight, add notes and crop. It seems as though Edge will more than hold its own against Chrome and Firefox.

Compulsory Windows updates

You will be used to having the option of acting on updates. With Windows 10 this is no longer the case; accepting the user agreement means that you accept all updates. This feature has its good points, in that potential security issues will be addressed straight away. Of course, it’s also easy to see how there could be potential issues. If you are working on a document, and leave your PC unattended, there is the potential for an automatic update and re-start to take place, resulting in you losing your work.

It’s hard to say how much of an issue this will be. But overall Windows 10, with its improved user experience, seems to be the best we’ve seen of Windows.
