Review: Quntis 18W iPhone fast charger

Apple makes some of the worlds most beautiful smartphones and tablets, but despite charging people up to £1,000 for a new phone, the Cupertino-based company does not bundle a fast-charger with any of their devices.

Apple has incorporated support for USB PD fast charging for a number of years within all of its main product line-up, but most people still use the infuriatingly slow 5W chargers they always have been to charge their iPhones. Luckily, a number of manufacturers produce USB PD fast chargers designed for specifically for Apple products to help you get the best experience out of your shiny new gadget.

One of those manufacturers is Quntis, who were kind enough to send over their 18W iPhone fast charger for review today.

Look & feel

The Quntis charger is made from white plastic, fitting in with almost any other Apple peripheral, and is relatively small and light measuring 8cm x 4cm x 2.5cm, so easy to throw in even the smallest bag. And with the charger comes a generous 2m USB-C to Lightning connector charging cable. There’s not much to write about in terms of looks here – it is a small functional charger, that looks pretty much as you would expect.

In use

The 2m charging cable is a massive bonus compared to the 1m cables we tend to see, so it will stretch from the wall socket easily to the table – something I wish other manufacturers would think about.

The charger itself is the more interesting part here, however, as thanks to its 18W PD fast charge capabilities it can charge your iPhone 11 to 50% in just half an hour and up to 100% in 140 minutes. That is a huge step up from the 2+ hours it can take with some older chargers.

As the charger is USB-C PD, whilst it is sold as an Apple-certified product, if your device supports PD fast charging and you have a USB-C cable to hand then this will work for that device too – it charged my Pixel 3XL just as quickly as the iPhone 11. And whilst 18W is not high enough to charge a MacBook Pro or a Windows laptop, it will charge MacBook Airs or other devices like the Nintendo Switch that charge over USB-C.
