Mobile gaming trends to look out for in 2018

The last few years have seen a huge increase in the amount of mobile gaming carried out all over the world. Recent figures from Shopify suggest that this is now a $50 billion industry, driving more revenue than PC and console gaming for the first time in 2017.

Since it is still a relatively new industry, it is no surprise to see that there are plenty of emerging trends worth looking out for. The following are some of the key developments that could add immensely to our mobile gaming pleasure in the near future.

Console-Quality Games

The earliest mobile games were simplistic, very basic affairs. While many people believe that the Snake game on Nokia phones was the first mobile game, this honor actually belongs to a version of Tetris that was pre-loaded on the Hagenuk MT-2000 phone.

Now, developers are getting ever closer to console quality on their mobile apps. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Tekken Mobile, and Shadowgun Legends are all incredibly attractive mobile games that take mobile gaming to a new level in terms of graphics and sound.

Hundreds of mobile casino games

It doesn’t seem so long ago that the arrival of the first internet casinos allowed players to try and beat the dealer at home for the first time. The likes of roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and slots games have all proved to be hugely successful in this online format.

Therefore, it was a natural progression for mobile casino games to be introduced too. We can see how comprehensive these are by looking at the Mr Green app. This mobile casino currently has over 300 games, covering everything from progressive jackpot slots to live dealer games.

Augmented reality (AR) is still around

You may not have heard much about AR in recent times. However, this is another trend that is bubbling away nicely. Could 2018 be the year in which augmented reality hits the headlines again after a relatively quiet period? The technology is certainly available to make this happen.

Pokémon GO is still the best-known mobile game to be created featuring AR. It was launched in 2016 and the latest figures show some five million daily active users. Other titles that add extra details to the world around us include Parallel Mafia, Ingress, and Temple Treasure Hunt.

Multi-player mobile gaming is growing

Playing against other humans is one of the most exciting approaches to any type of gaming. This is another relatively recent addition to the mobile gaming scene but it too has exploded in popularity lately. Interestingly, there is now a wide variety of different types of games of this type around.

For example, VainGlory is a multi-player strategy game, Arcane Legend is a massively multiplayer online role playing game, and Hearthstone is a popular card-dueling game. You can also choose to take on other players at the likes of fighting, racing, and sports games.

With mobile gaming now a huge industry, it is clear that the future is going to bring more exciting advances and an ever-growing variety of games for us to choose from.
